“It’s Bold and It’s Daring”
September 18, 2019
In the Weekend Financial Times of 5/12/19 there was a photo of Robyn Rihanna Fenty (born February 20, 1988) with the headline, “Force of fashion Rihanna makes history with luxury brand at LVMH.”

What is a Muse in Fashion?
September 11, 2019
The dictionary definition of a muse is, “A person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist.” However, in the fashion industry, it’s much more than that.
“Get That Ice Or It’s No Dice”
September 04, 2019
Today we’re going to talk about jewelry – a subject I rarely tackle. Or, to be more specific: diamonds and what they mean to a gal. The headline for this blog is a line from the song Diamonds Are Girl’s Best Friend. CLICK HERE(Open Link in new window) to see Marilyn Monroe strut her stuff in this movie.
It's a Swamp! No, It's the Everglades.
August 30, 2019
Southern Florida is filled with National Parks(Open Link in new window). There is Big Cypress in Ochopee; Biscayne in Miami, Key Biscayne and Homestead; Dry Tortugas in Key West; and the Everglades in Miami, Naples and Homestead. Although it is August and Florida is hot and humid this time of year, I found myself at Big Cypress and the Everglades.
The Art Exhibit That Got Away
August 28, 2019
There is one thing about New York that is definitely a big plus: namely, there are always plenty of exhibits, events and places to explore in order to have a great time – for little or no money. No healthy human has to sit home and twiddle his or her thumbs! Since time flies in Manhattan I always make a point of keeping track of everything in my trusty At-A-Glance Daily Appointment Book.
Likes or No Likes - the Instagram Question
August 23, 2019
When Instagram announced they would be running a test where they would "hide the total number of likes and video views for some people" in some countries, the feedback was mixed. I spoke with some of my friends, from around the globe(Open Link in new window), who lauded the decision. Their reasoning was varied but with many pointing to how many teens and even young children are feeling the pressure to post and will only feel validated when they get so many likes.
The Hudson Yards, PART TWO
August 21, 2019
Last week we introduced you to the newly opened Hudson Yards and provided lots of basic, down-to-earth information. CLICK HERE(Open Link in new window) for a fantastic video of the grand opening ceremony (sound on/full screen). This week we’re going to focus on the shops and restaurants you will find as well as “The Vessel” (New York’s answer to the Eiffel Tower) and “The Shed” (a performance and exhibition space that expands and contracts).
The Collision of Fashion and Politics?
August 18, 2019
No matter where you are in the world today, it seems one cannot escape politics. As I do not want this post to be an oxymoron, my goal is to keep it on topic - politics in fashion?. It was not that long ago, I cancelled one of my previously beloved fashion(Open Link in new window) magazines (and as you read this, it wasn't American Vogue). Without thinking twice, I cited the reason being that I was a subscriber to this magazine because it used to be about fashion, now it was about fashion and politics.
The Hudson Yards, PART ONE
August 14, 2019
On April 15, 2019 a fire broke out beneath the roof of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Since I had seen this magnificent structure in my early twenties I found this horrific news very upsetting. I was grateful that we had scheduled an outing to the recently opened Hudson Yards on the West Side of Manhattan. It was a welcome distraction because this creation of a “brand new neighborhood” was overwhelming. I have 10 pages of typed research notes that I plan to break down into bite-sized points to give you a quick overview of this astounding venture.
Fast Friends: People and Pets
August 07, 2019
I live in a Manhattan building with 21 floors and, I can’t prove it, but I swear there are several dogs on every floor. Most of them are fairly small and well behaved – one rarely hears any barking in the halls or elevators. The tenants are supposed to use the service elevator when going in-and-out with dogs but this isn’t really enforced. Besides, the dogs are very engaging – especially the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
Fabulous Friendships

ANNA WINTOUR: When Karl Lagerfeld died I wrote a brief tribute about this amazing designer and decided that was it. CLICK HERE(Open Link in new window) to see this blog. But then, I came across a final good-bye to him titled, “My Brilliant Friend” written by Anna Wintour that appeared in the April 2019 issue of Vogue magazine.
