The dictionary definition of a muse is, “A person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist.” However, in the fashion industry, it’s much more than that.
Today we’re going to talk about jewelry – a subject I rarely tackle. Or, to be more specific: diamonds and what they mean to a gal. Southern Florida is filled with National Parks(Open Link in new window). There is Big Cypress in Ochopee; Biscayne in Miami, Key Biscayne and Homestead; Dry Tortugas in Key West; and the Everglades in Miami, Naples and Homestead. Although it is August and Florida is hot and humid this time of year, I found myself at Big Cypress and the Everglades.
There is one thing about New York that is definitely a big plus: namely, there are always plenty of exhibits, events and places to explore in order to have a great time – for little or no money. No healthy human has to sit home and twiddle his or her thumbs! Since time flies in Manhattan I always make a point of keeping track of everything in my trusty At-A-Glance Daily Appointment Book.
When Instagram announced they would be running a test where they would "hide the total number of likes and video views for some people" in some countries, the feedback was mixed. I spoke with some of my friends, from around the globe(Open Link in new window), who lauded the decision. Their reasoning was varied but with many pointing to how many teens and even young children are feeling the pressure to post and will only feel validated when they get so many likes.

No matter where you are in the world today, it seems one cannot escape politics. As I do not want this post to be an oxymoron, my goal is to keep it on topic - politics in fashion?. It was not that long ago, I cancelled one of my previously beloved fashion(Open Link in new window) magazines (and as you read this, it wasn't American Vogue). Without thinking twice, I cited the reason being that I was a subscriber to this magazine because it used to be about fashion, now it was about fashion and politics.
On April 15, 2019 a fire broke out beneath the roof of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Since I had seen this magnificent structure in my early twenties I found this horrific news very upsetting. I was grateful that we had scheduled an outing to the recently opened Hudson Yards on the West Side of Manhattan. It was a welcome distraction because this creation of a “brand new neighborhood” was overwhelming. I have 10 pages of typed research notes that I plan to break down into bite-sized points to give you a quick overview of this astounding venture.
I live in a Manhattan building with 21 floors and, I can’t prove it, but I swear there are several dogs on every floor. Most of them are fairly small and well behaved – one rarely hears any barking in the halls or elevators. The tenants are supposed to use the service elevator when going in-and-out with dogs but this isn’t really enforced. Besides, the dogs are very engaging – especially the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
