Even if you do not live on Long Island or even in the New York City area, you are certain to be aware of The Hamptons. The area has come to be a place where many financiers to celebrities call home...in the summer. And, it often makes various "news" outlets because of that. Of course, that is one side of The Hamptons. The side that I enjoy the most is that I have come to appreciate by getting to know the locals.
As a road cyclist, one of my favorite summer Hamptons activities is going for a ride while there is still dew on the grass. The country roads offer beautiful scenery, and there is something special about being on the road without cars, taking in the fresh air and enjoying the sites. Of course, doing this with friends is always a plus.
A way to end a good bike ride is to stop at a roadside fruit and vegetable stand. I'm a fan of eating local so what better way than this. Southampton also offers a nice Farmer's Market, which if your timing to the area aligns, is always a good stop.
Another must-do for me when I'm in The Hamptons is to stop at a Hampton Coffee. They roast their beans in Southampton, and even if you are just passing through, you can pick up some of their beans to go. They have multiple locations throughout Long Island.
Of course, summer in The Hamptons is not complete without a visit to the beaches. We haven't had trouble finding a spot on the beach, although, parking can be challenging. So, be sure to make a day out of it, as you are there surely to relax and get some downtime.
Lastly, be sure you explore the towns of The Hamptons too, as they all offer something special. Whether it is the pop-up shops in Southampton or the museums in East Hampton or the lighthouse in Montauk, there is more to The Hamptons than meets the eye. There is a community of individuals that live there that make it a pleasure to come back year after year.
